Our validated science-based targets underline the primary role of our products and services in our global carbon reduction ambition. It reinforces our commitment to keep offering the utmost sustainable solutions to our customers, while continually reducing the environmental impact of our operations.
Our Together For Our Planet strategy was built to make a positive contribution to achieving the UN's SDGs 7, 9, 12 and 13.
As a manufacturing company, we know that our operations have an impact on the environment. We use the planet’s resources in our operations and distribution activities.
Furthermore, our products consume electricity during their lifetime, which despite the technological advances of LED technology, still represents 98% of our total environmental impact according to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol.
In 2023, we committed to setting near-term company-wide emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to reinforce our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, and to align with climate science and the objectives of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
These carbon emissions reduction targets were approved by the SBTi in January 2024.

Our footprint
Climate actions
In 2023, we reduced our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 29% compared to the 2019 baseline.
The reduction in Scope 1 emissions were mainly driven by a 21% reduction in our gas consumption due to improvements in the powder painting process at our manufacturing sites, and a 34% reduction in company car emissions compared to our 2019 base year.
The reduction in Scope 2 emissions is due to our ongoing efforts to purchase electricity from renewable sources wherever possible. Today, our production sites in Spain, Hungary and Australia use 100% green electricity, representing 60% of our total electricity consumption.
As 98% of our total Scope 3 emissions come from the use phase of our products after they have been sold, we have limited our Scope 3 near-term SBTi target for category 11 (use of sold products) in accordance with the SBTi target setting rules.
The emissions from our products sold in 2023 were 5.19 million tonnes of CO2e, a 2.5% reduction compared to 2022 (5.32 million tonnes) and an 18% reduction compared to our base year 2019 (6.33 million tonnes).
Sustainable solutions
We are constantly developing new technologies to reduce the energy consumption of our lighting solutions to a minimum (the latest generation LEDs, optimised optics,…). Today, almost 100% of our luminaire sales are with LED technology.
We have developed a range of solar lighting solutions to help customers significantly reduce their carbon footprint while reducing energy demand.
We are also continually working on our Schréder EXEDRA platform to deliver adaptive and connected lighting that maximise energy savings without compromising on safety. By installing energy-efficient luminaires, controlled by Schréder EXEDRA, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 80%.
Product Environmental Profile
A Product Environmental Profile (PEP) is available on request for all our road and decorative luminaires to provide credible and transparent information on their environmental impact.
Developed in collaboration with an independent agency (in accordance with the principles of ISO 14040: 2006 and EN 15804:2012 + A2:2019), the PEP summarises the Life Cycle Assessment of the luminaire by examining its environmental impact throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life.
Circular Design
In 2020, as part of our on-going mission to develop products with the lowest possible environmental impact, and in the absence of independent standards, we carefully analysed the potential circularity of luminaires to introduce a “circular lighting” product label.
This Circle Light Label challenges our development teams to integrate circular economy principles into product design. It assesses the luminaire circularity based on twelve objective criteria. It takes into account performance, maintenance, refurbishment, disassembly and recycling potential.
In 2023, 100% of our new products obtained 4 stars (the most) for the Circle Light Label.
We will and continue to look for international standards that our process could meet.
